Alternative Labels | U-shape tow
Definition | The sample is collected between two depths along a U-shape path from a moving platform; the sample is collected while the device is lowered from the surface down to a target depth, towed horizontally for a given time at that depth, and then hauled back to the surface. Examples of gears that can be deployed that way include ring nets, Bongo nets, Tucker trawls, IKMTs or other non-opening or closing nets (Wiebe and Benfield 2003, Plates 2 and 3).
