Definition | The Day grab is regarded as a valuable alternative to the Smith-McIntyre grab. It has a typical sampling area of 0.1 m2 and a typical penetration depth of up to 15 cm. It has a frame to keep the grab level on the sea bed, and two trigger plates for actuating the release, but no springs to force the hinged buckets into the bottom. Penetration of the sediment is assisted by the weight of the grab, of sometimes with addition lead weights. | ||
