Definition | A sediment gravity corer used to obtain thick, undisturbed cores of the uppermost part of the sediment layer. It can also be used as a piston corer. The device has a nose, a barrel of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), and a weight stand. The nose consists of three parts: a core cutter, a brass tube, and a core catcher. The PVC tube used, has an outside diameter of 90.4 mm and an inner diameter of 73 mm. The lower end of the PVC tube is fixed to the nose, while its upper end is attached to the weight stand. The length of the barrel used varies between 1 and 3 m. | ||
