| Definition | The Seapoint Ultraviolet Fluorometer (SUVF) is an instrument for in situ measurement of fluorescent materials including chromophoric/coloured dissolved organic matter (CDOM), crude oil, and UV fluorescent dyes. Applications include: Ocean colour research; Water and Wastewater quality; DOM cycle studies; Radiative transfer studies; Ocean Science and Research; Limnological Studies; Crude oil detection; and Dye detection The SUVF uses modulated ultraviolet LED lamps and optical filters for excitation. The fluorescent light signal passes through a blue emission filter and is detected by a silicon photodiode. The low-level signal is then processed using synchronous demodulation circuitry which generates an output voltage proportional to the amount of fluorescent light received. The SUVF may be operated with or without a pump. The sensing volume may be left open to the surrounding water, or, with the use of the supplied cap, can have water pumped through it. Two control lines allow the user to set the range to one of four options. These lines may be hardwired or microprocessor controlled to provide a suitable range and resolution for a given application. The instrument's operating temperature range is 0 degrees Celsius to 65 degrees Celsius. It has a depth capability of 6000 m. The instruments excitation wavelengths are 370 nm CWL, and 12 nm FWHM; and emission wavelengths are 440 nm CWL, and 40 nm FWHM. | ||
